Roger Hodgson was the second half of the songwriting duo in Supertramp. After their Famous Last Words album in 1982 and subsequent mega-rock stadium tour, Hodgson decided it was time to move on to his own solo career, and a simpler lifestyle with his family. He built a state-of-the-art recording studio at his home, which allowed him to create music and still be home with his children. An award-winning composer, Hodgson began work on his first solo album In the Eye of the Storm. His first album became an international hit and Hodgson then started work on this second album titled Hai Hai. With the success of his first album and the release of his second, Hodgson prepped for a tour. Unfortunately, a career-shattering accident happened to Roger Hodgson right after the release of his second solo album.
In 1987, Hodgson released his Hai Hai album and in that same week, he shattered both his wrists in a fall. The prognosis wasn’t good. According to Hodgson, “Doctors said he would never play music again (rogerhodgson.com).” The musician was determined to continue doing not only something he loved, but also continue his career. Through faith, a period of self-healing, and physical therapy, Hodgson proved the medical community wrong. Within 18 months, he was playing music again and has released more albums since.
A career-shattering accident could have stopped Roger Hodgson. He could have believed the doctors and retreated into solitude, instead, he pursued a course of treatment that helped him continue the career he loved. An award-winning musician and family man, Hodgson performs to sold-out crowds worldwide and continues to write new music.
