Supertramp quietly burst onto the music scene in the mid-seventies. While the band had been together since 1969, it wasn’t until their song “Dreamer” in 1974 that they achieved their first commercial success. Later, the album Breakfast in America left an indelible mark on the international music scene and broke all previous concert attendance records in Europe and Canada. With Roger Hodgson exiting in the early eighties, the band continued to tour until 1987 and then went on hiatus for a number of years. The release of their tenth and eleventh albums had the band touring again in the late 90s and early 2000s, however, touring was not consistent and the most recent European tour in 2015 was canceled due to Rick Davies health. While the Rick Davies-led Supertramp is not currently touring, fans can see Roger Hodgson on tour.
Roger Hodgson has actively performed music on his Breakfast in America tour since 2012. Hodgson recently traveled through the U.S. and Canada to sell-out crowds during November and December of 2016. The tour consisted of 27 stops and 20 of those concerts were sold-out performances. This not only shows the impact of Hodgson as an entertainer, but it also highlights the impact and legacy of Supertramp’s music. The music is as important today as it ever was and fans recognize this importance. According to one concert goer, Hodgson “…exceeded my expectations.” The concert goer further says, “…You are truly a legend and I must say I was profoundly touched by your humility and gentle personality, thank you, merci, for such a memorable evening. Your music will forever be eternal (rogerhodgson.com).” It is clear that Roger Hodgson is continuing to wow audiences worldwide. Currently, he is gearing up for a South American and European tour in 2017 with the first performance scheduled in March (one is already sold out).
The United States won’t see another Roger Hodgson concert on its shores for a number of months, but be assured, that he will come around again, and to sell-out crowds. Tickets are best purchased in advance and with excitement for all things Supertramp. To find out where Roger Hodgson is touring, visit his website at www.rogerhodgson.com.
