Legendary rocker, songwriter, and family man Bob Seger has always supported Detroit. In fact, the musician still resides in the local area with his family. While the “Night Moves” legend is most known for his ability to create a story to music, he is also a man who understands the importance of supporting the youth.
For the second year in a row, Seger has sponsored the Dale Carnegie Teen Program at the Oakland County Children’s Village. The village is a place for children who are in need of out-of-home services such a treatment and care for the youth, as well as their families. The Dale Carnegie Teen Program teaches public speaking, leadership, and decision-making skills along with the ability to replace negative attitudes with positive thoughts and feelings. The cost for each child to attend the program is $1295 and Bob Seger’s donation to the program is very helpful. Seger and his wife Nita said in a statement in 2016, “It’s an honor to be a small part of bringing this Dale Carnegie Workshop to Children’s Village (theoaklandpress.com).” Based upon the success of the previous year’s program, the musician decided to support the program again in 2017 and the Children’s Village is very grateful. County Executive L. Brooks Patterson expressed thankfulness, “Oakland County is grateful for Mr. Seger’s support and continued generosity. His participation sends a powerful message to our at-risk youth that they matter and their success matters (patch.com).” With programs such as the Dale Carnegie Teen Program and support from people such as Bob Seger, the teens feel they are important and worth the investment.
